From The Director

Larry Leeds

Hello, HOG members.  As you may have already noticed, our newsletter looks very different this month.  I would like to take this opportunity to speak a little bit about the obvious changes that are occurring in our board of directors and our club, in general.  When I ran for Director in August of 2006, I had a lot of new ideas and aspirations for our club.  I was very excited to be elected Director and have been trying to make some positive changes since then.  When we attended Primary Officers Training in April, I got even more excited and came back with more ideas from the HOG District Managers and had the opportunity to talk to other HOG officers and find out how they ran their chapters.  The biggest and most important fact that we learned while in training was that the Sponsor (Minor's) is the final word on any and all of our activities.  I have been discussing all changes and ideas that I have been trying to put in progress with Danny and Michele over the past nine months, and they have been very supportive of all of my ideas and those of the board.  Unfortunately, what we are finding is that more senior members of the club are so used to the way that things used to be run that they are very resistant to these changes.  I'm sorry that these members have decided to either drop out of the club and/or resign their board positions, but I hope that, as a whole, we will be making some beneficial changes, recruit a lot of new members and have even more fun from this point forward.  For those board members that have felt the need to resign, I would like to thank them for the work they have done in the past and let them know that I would like for them to continue to contribute to the club and be active members.  I would like to encourage anyone interested in filling the vacant board positions to contact me, so we can continue to operate as smoothly as possible.

Now, on to other business … in the last month, we have had the KRCC Poker Run and the Special Olympics Poker Run.  Each of those events did well and all volunteers and coordinators for those events did a fantastic job.  MDA Stride and Ride was June 23rd.  Even with the questionable weather that day, they are very excited about the outcome of their event.

We have had a couple of dinner/lunch runs on the weekends.  The turnouts were sparse, but they were on holidays.  We will be planning more of them, as we can.

I want to invite everyone to come to my annual float trip on July 7th (details to follow and also posted on the website).

Please note that our meeting has been moved from the first Tuesday to the second Tuesday, due to the holiday.  July is a busy, busy month.  I hope to see everyone out having a great time.

Larry

Electronic News

Just a reminder for everyone to check out SEMOHOG.com. We are doing a pretty good job of keeping up-to-date information on the schedule and home pages. We will be posting all last-minute changes and rides there. We are going to be discussing putting the newsletter on the website soon with the board and trying to get that done as soon as possible. In Primary Officers Training, we learned that many clubs are doing this now. Not only is it a faster way to get our newsletter to everyone, but it will save the club lots of money on postage and printing. Some hard copies will still be available at Minor's, and for those who do not have a way of getting one electronically, we will still mail a few out. We are going to discuss having a drawing in the beginning for those members who take the electronic leap with us and help to cut down on our mailing costs.
